ABOUT OWA HE
Come here.
There is room for you.
Owa he means “come here” in Waⁿdat. It is an invitation into a different kind of gay men’s travel experience, one built around movement, discovery, restoration, and belonging.
FOUNDED BY BILLY MAWHINEYWHY I BUILT OWA HE
I wanted something
I could not find.
I wanted to travel with other gay men without the trip being built around nightlife, body competition, dating, or having to arrive with someone I already knew.
I wanted movement that could meet each person where he was. I wanted beautiful places, good food, honest conversation, laughter, and enough unplanned time to breathe. Most of all, I wanted a group small enough for people to actually know one another.
That became Owa He. Guests apply before they book because the people matter as much as the place. We talk before anyone commits, learn what each person hopes to experience, and build a group with care. No one is asked to perform, disclose more than he wants, or keep pace with anyone else.
My role is to hold the details so guests can be present. That means thoughtful planning, clear expectations, flexible movement, shared meals, memorable local experiences, protected downtime, and the kind of hosting that helps conversation happen naturally.
WHAT I BELIEVE
A change of place can create
room for a change in us.
Not because a retreat fixes everything. It does not.
But stepping outside ordinary routines can make it easier to hear yourself, try something new, and remember what it feels like to be fully present with other people.
Owa He is built to create that room.
THE INVITATION
Known before you arrive.
Welcomed as you are.
You do not need to be single, exceptionally fit, outgoing, or an experienced traveler. You do need curiosity, kindness, and a willingness to be part of a small group while honoring your own pace.
If you are wondering whether Owa He might be right for you, begin with the application. We can have a real conversation before you decide.
